John Lennon
John Lennon (1940-1980) was one of the “Fab Four” members of the Beatles Rock band which transformed the music industry around the world in the 1960’s. He was a guitarist, a songwriter and a vocalist with tremendous talent in addition to being a peace activist, a husband, and a father.
I typed John Lennon because I loved his music, his relentless pursuit of peace, his commitment to spread joy, and his ability to bring people together through his music. I grew up listening to the Beatles’ and will always remember the very spot I stood on the tragic day that I heard the news that John Lennon had died of gunshot wounds after being shot by a mentally unstable man in New York. I was 17 years old and in high school and the world dimmed a bit that day as his light and life was snuffed out. I enjoyed reading more about his life and listening to his songs as I typed his portrait. I loved reading about how as a child, he once said when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, that he wanted to “be happy”, and included that remembrance of his on his portrait. I hope he enjoyed the same happiness that he spread to others. He was a light, that although dimmed when his life was cut short at the age of 40, has continued to spread joy to others through his life and work.
